Course:
Teams can expect a challenging race in true Trioba fashion. We have wanted to produce a race in this area for many years.  This race is logistically challenging and will require an investment of your time on Friday, however, you will be rewarded with a true 24 hour race unlike any seen in Washington.  There will be 20-30 miles of flat water paddling, 50-75 miles of biking, and 20-30 miles of trail running.  Biking will be on paved and forest service roads, and single track.  Treking will be on and off trail.  Expect lots of climbing
Since this race will be held in backcountry areas with limited access.  We expect teams to come prepared with the skills necessary for backcountry travel.  During 2010 we will be offering clinics for adventure racing and navigation skills.  With the proper skills and training, teams can expect to finish this epic race.
Teams will be required to bring their own kayaks or canoes.  Wind can be extreme in the area that you will be paddling.  We expect teams to bring boats that are able to withstand heavy winds and waves.  Boats and safety equipment will be checked prior to the race.  If race management feels that your gear or skills are not adequate to safely paddle, you will not be allowed on the water.
Trioba has a fleet of good quality rental boats.  They are Necky Amaruk doubles and are available for $100 each.  We also have a limited number of paddles.  You must reserve your boats and paddles prior to the race by emailing us at info@trioba.com.   You are required to provide all safety gear listed in the required gear list.  These boats will be pre-positioned at the kayak put in and you will not be required to transport these boats.
If you have any questions please post them to the PNWAR forum under the Trioba heading so that all teams can benefit and questions to us are minimized.

Participant Responsibility Model:
TRIOBA endorses the Participant Responsibility Model wherein participants take primary responsibility for their own safety. Participants are encouraged to acquire the skills and experience required to safely participate in all of the various activities that can be part of adventure racing. Participants are expected to be aware of their own limitations and exercise good judgment while still challenging themselves. Race Directors will strive to provide participants with adequate information regarding the activities involved in its events, while still retaining as much of the mystery and "adventure" that defines adventure racing.
The gear list should NOT be considered all that is necessary to safely participate in our events.  You are required to make a personal assessment of your abilities and requirements for each event.  You should carry with you all the gear that you believe is necessary to safely complete the event.

Divisions:
The race is open to 2, 3 and 4 person teams.  Only 4 person coed teams will be considered a premier category and eligible for awards/prizing.

Checkpoint Tracker Series:
Trioba Adventure Races are a part of the Checkpoint Tracker Series.  This is a nationwide series of over 75 races which will culminate in a national championship.  All teams will be required to register through the Checkpoint tracker site.  You will need to create your team and squad for our race.  It is substantially the same as registering directly with us however you will only need to register once and you will be registered with us for any race that you choose and ranked at the end of each race.  In addition, this will allow us to use the online leaderboard, and many other powerful online features.  It will also allow you to be part of the series and be eligible to compete and be ranked against over 250 other teams from around the country.
We believe in giving back to the areas where we play.  We will be holding two Trioba trails days in Capitol Forest on March 6th April 3rd, 2010.  We will be partnering with Friends of Capital Forest.  Each person who attends the work party will receive a $25 discount on their entry fee.  If you are interested in taking advantage of this offer, email us at info@trioba.com and let us know.

You will be extremely busy on Friday night leading up to the race and you will have space to pack your gear and prepare maps at the pre race meeting location.  You will also have a place to leave your car and unneeded gear.   There will be places to take a nap before the race.  We recommend that you bring your sleeping bag and possibly a tent.
If you have any questions please post them to the PNWAR forum under the Trioba heading so that all teams can benefit and questions to us are minimized

Support Crews:
The race will not require a support crew, and no teams will be allowed to receive support from any person not racing. However, friends and family and any other spectators are encouraged to attend the race, and there will be ample opportunities for these people to watch the race. If friends and family would like to be more involved than a spectator, we are always looking for more volunteers for the event.

Volunteers:
Volunteering is an excellent way to get the feel and experience of an adventure race if you are unsure if you would like to participate. Also, friends and family of racers that are planning on coming to the race are encouraged to volunteer. Adventure racing would not be possible without the help of volunteers, and Trioba is currently looking for outdoor-minded volunteers that are willing to help with the race! All volunteers that can help for the duration of the race will receive 50% off any Trioba event and food after the race
We have a special need for EMT/medical trained personnel and water safety personnel.  In addition, we will need to staff a remote checkpoint continuously for approximate 12 hours.  We are looking for individuals who can make this commitment and can stay overnight.  We can provide you with special incentives up to and including a small stipend.

There will be a pre-race volunteer meeting after the racer's pre-race meeting, around 9:00PM on Friday night. If you would like to be a part of this exciting event, please contact Trioba at volunteer@trioba.com

Rules:
The Rules for the Trioba 24 Hour Race are intended to maximize the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Please review and follow the rules!
