July 7 - Cougar WA

Event Description

Teams can expect a challenging race. This is a new area for Trioba and we hope to introduce you to a completely unique experience. There will be 15-25 miles of flat water paddling, 50-75 miles of biking, and 20-30 miles of trekking and trail running. Biking will be on paved and forest service roads, and single track. Trekking will be on and off trail. Expect lots of climbing. The course will be completely navigation based, and teams should be proficient with using a map and compass in order to finish the course.

Since this race will be held in backcountry areas with limited access. We expect teams to come prepared with the skills necessary for backcountry travel. During 2012 we will be offering clinics for adventure racing and navigation skills. With the proper skills and training, teams can expect to finish this epic race.

Teams will be required to bring their own kayaks or canoes. Wind can be extreme in the area that you will be paddling. We expect teams to bring boats that are able to withstand heavy winds and waves. Boats and safety equipment will be checked prior to the race. If race management feels that your gear or skills are not adequate to safely paddle, you will not be allowed on the water.

Maps

We will be using 1:24,000 USGS based maps. It is your responsibility to preserve the maps and checkpoint descriptions throughout the race. There will be no replacements available. No outside maps are permitted on the course. You are welcome to use other maps prior to the race start.

Checkpoints

Each checkpoint will have a standard orange and white orienteering flag and a manual punch. All controls have been located by GPS and vetted.

Divisions

The race is open to 2, 3 and 4 person teams. Only 4 person coed teams will be considered a premier category and eligible for awards/prizing.

Schedule

Participant Responsibility Model

Trioba endorses the Participant Responsibility Model wherein participants take primary responsibility for their own safety. Participants are encouraged to acquire the skills and experience required to safely participate in all of the various activities that can be part of rogaine. Participants are expected to be aware of their own limitations and exercise good judgment while still challenging themselves. Race Directors will strive to provide participants with adequate information regarding the activities involved in its events.

The gear list should NOT be considered all that is necessary to safely participate in our events. You are required to make a personal assessment of your abilities and requirements for each event. You should carry with you all the gear that you believe is necessary to safely complete the event.
